Thank you to the NEWNC!

  • Community Meetings, North Square, Suitcase

Thank you to everyone who attended our presentation at the March 12th NEWNC meeting tonight! We appreciate all of your feedback and your great ideas.

We are especially grateful for the feedback on the Suitcase sculpture and the idea that the ‘luggage labels’ should focus on places in Italy rather than places around the world. We have taken this into consideration and yes, there will be mainly Italian labels on the suitcase, and they will be the most prominent.

In appreciation for the many waves of immigration that have played a part in the North End’s history over the centuries, we will include some representative labels from earlier inhabitants.

Since this sculpture will be created in collaboration with local school children, we will also allow for some flexibility in choosing labels, letting them decide which countries or groups they think should be represented.

Veterans Day is this Saturday 11/11.
Just a couple more weeks until the November 18th closing of the exhibit "Reservoir: What the Water Knows" curated by Arlinda Shtuni which includes our sculpture with video projection "You Are Here II". The sculpture is a five-minute multimedia odyssey and site-specific re-imagining that transforms your sense of place with a sequence of nine varied waterscapes projected across topography of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir area. The piece explores the interactions between land and water, substance and light, and physical object and digital image.
This country sometimes looks like another planet (road-trip to the Southwest!)
Our new sculpture "You Are Here Il" envisions nine different waterscapes projected across a sculptural topography. It can be seen from May 13-Nov 18 @metrowaterworks in Chestnut Hill, MA (hrs: Wed-Sun 11am - 4pm and Sat 10am - 3pm) in "Reservoir; What the Water Knows" curated by Arlinda Shtuni along with new work by @oldcateyes, @heather_kapplow,, @nancyselvage, Ros Zimmermann and Nathaniel Price.

New England Castings in Standish, ME, pushed their own boundaries working with our renderings and casting our milled foam sections into Duplex Stainless Steel a material that seems just right for the streets of Worcester and the people whose stories our sculpture tells. Thank you Walter, Mike and the whole crew at NEC!
Our sculpture takes its cue from the work of the 19th-century Worcester abolitionist and suffragist Abby Kelley Foster and is permanently installed at 311 Main St. to the left of Mechanics Hall. We're grateful to State Sen. Harriette L. Chandler, D-Worcester, who helped secure funding for “The Speaker’s Stand” and to our partners at the City of Worcester, especially the Cultural Development Office, D.P.W., the Public Art Working Group and Abby's House. Excited to have our work “The Speaker’s Stand,” be a part of the Main Street Reimagined Public Art Program which tells the story of Worcester, MA’s rich history through a series of public artworks along Main Street. Here are the first five of many new works. (Photos © 2021 Troy B. Thompson Photography, all rights reserved)
