North Square and Boston’s newest public artwork was dedicated on September 23rd, 2019 thanks to the hard work of so many North Enders, the North Square Stories team and the City of Boston. North Square Stories is exceptional in Boston’s landscape of public art in bronze because of the extraordinary degree of community support the project entailed. We are honored that North Square Stories is the pilot project for Boston’s new Percent for Art program, and that A+J were selected to make an artwork for this site which has been a public square since the early 1600’s.

We thank Mayor Walsh for his support of the arts. And for their partnership, we thank the Boston Art Commission and Karin Goodfellow, Kara Elliott-Ortega, Sarah Rodrigo and Kristina Carroll of the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, and Maria Lanza of the Office of Neighborhood Services. We also thank Joe Fleury and the Public Works Department for this beautiful setting, and for making sure public art would be a part the revitalized North Square.

A+J were very fortunate to be supported by countless North Enders and North End enthusiasts who contributed their time, energy and stories to this project, especially students and faculty of the St. John and Eliot Schools, the NEWNC and NEWRA community groups, and members of our Advisory Panel including Jim Pasto, Nina Zannieri, Ben Edwards, Suzanne Taylor, Richard and Bennett Molinari, Victor Brogna, Tommy Damigella, John Pregmon, Lindsay Yazzolino, David Kubiak, L’Merchie Frazier and so many others.

And with thanks here for the photos to Opalite Media, Alyssa Nations of Northendwaterfront.com, Chris Yeager Photography, Nancy Schieffelin Photography, Tom DaMigella, Karin Goodfellow, Maria Lanza, and Nathan Socha of BETA Group, Inc. architecture and construction. Hope you will also check out Alyssa Nation’s post.

Come see our new site-specific, video-sculpture installation "You Are Here" for the WATERLINES exhibit | December 15, 2022 - March 22, 2023 | Somerville Museum, MA
New England Castings in Standish, ME, pushed their own boundaries working with our renderings and casting our milled foam sections into Duplex Stainless Steel a material that seems just right for the streets of Worcester and the people whose stories our sculpture tells. Thank you Walter, Mike and the whole crew at NEC!
Our sculpture takes its cue from the work of the 19th-century Worcester abolitionist and suffragist Abby Kelley Foster and is permanently installed at 311 Main St. to the left of Mechanics Hall. We're grateful to State Sen. Harriette L. Chandler, D-Worcester, who helped secure funding for “The Speaker’s Stand” and to our partners at the City of Worcester, especially the Cultural Development Office, D.P.W., the Public Art Working Group and Abby's House. Excited to have our work “The Speaker’s Stand,” be a part of the Main Street Reimagined Public Art Program which tells the story of Worcester, MA’s rich history through a series of public artworks along Main Street. Here are the first five of many new works. (Photos © 2021 Troy B. Thompson Photography, all rights reserved)
